Paige: First Impressions of BC Children's Hospital
When I came to BC Children's Hospital, I found spending time in the Oncology ward difficult at first. Still dealing with my own fear and grief, I was immersed into a world I didn't know existed. A world where infants and children were fighting for their lives, hooked up to more tubes than you can imagine. A world where children were in discomfort and pain, and away from everything they knew to be normal. A world filled with children who were bald, scarred from surgery, and some even missing their limbs.
It didn't take long to adjust to my new life though. The doctors, nurses, and staff did everything possible to make me as comfortable as possible. They explained every procedure, and were always available with answers to my questions. Children's Hospital quickly became my home away from home and my new extended family.
I can honestly say through Children's Hospital, I met some of the most intelligent, kindest, accepting, caring, courageous, and bravest children imaginable. I learned something from each and every child I met and have each of their faces permanently imbedded in my memory.
