In 1993, E.B. Horsman & Son decided to take on the challenge of supporting a charity at a corporate level. As of June 2012, we have been able to donate a total of $505,906.00 to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, the province’s only pediatric acute care hospital. Funds raised support the Excellence in Child Health Fund and go to the areas of greatest need, providing the essential services, critical research and advanced technology necessary to make leading pediatric care accessible to our province’s one million children.

Wigs for Kids B.C. is a committee of volunteers that raises money to provide custom-fitted human-hair wigs for children suffering hair loss due to cancer or other serious illnesses. We also help provide essential medications and feeding supplies that are not covered by any medical plan or program. When a child has a serious illness it takes an enormous toll on the entire family–both emotionally and financially. The assistance we provide makes the family’s burden a little lighter so they can focus more of their time and energy on caring for their sick child. The Wigs for Kids B.C. program has absolutely no overhead. Every dollar we raise is used to further our mission: Helping B.C. kids living with cancer, live better. Rhonda Heaslip, mom, grandma & realtor takes an uplifting approach to raising money for BC Children's Hospital Foundation. Rhonda is a 2011 World Powerlifting Championship Silver Medalist, holder of 10 Canadian powerlifting records and 3 Commonwealth Records. Rhonda hopes you will support this great cause. Rhonda is visting various RBC Royal Banks from May to September. This is to encourage people to donate and to come out to her BIG lift in September 7th at Woodgrove Mall in Nanaimo. We would love to get donations for all the kilos she will lift!

Dear friends, My name is Simone Hung. Thank you for supporting BC Children’s Hospital! I would like to help them raise more money, so I am going to shave my head bald on May 31. The reason I choose to help BC Children’s is simply because they saved my little boy’s life. My youngest son, Kaspar, was born with a big hole in his heart. In the old days, if babies had these big holes, they wouldn’t survive long. I am so lucky that I am living in this era with great medical technology. About 1% of babies are born with heart defects, and most of them can heal themselves (or with a small surgery). But my son’s hole was so big he had to go through an open heart surgery. BC Children's is so great. Other than treating my little one, they also helped us get through the difficult time. The doctors explained to us clearly how the surgery worked, and even helped us explain it to my older son, Lothar, who was only 2 ½ years old then. They helped Lothar understand his little brother was so fragile that mom & dad needed to spend more time with Kaspar. BC Children's helped Lothar know what was going on and he was not jealous of his little brother at that time. He also gave so much love to his brother. Kaspar is 2 ½ years old now. He is running, jumping, living healthily and happily. The other reason I want to help BC Children's is that when I took my boy to the hospital, I saw kids who were fighting cancer. I saw them lose hair due to chemo and all the other side effects. I feel so bad that I can’t help ease their pain, but I can help raise awareness for them. I want to give them support. That’s why I decided to shave my head bald, so I can donate my hair to Wigs for Kids. Please give your support to help the kids and their families. I hope you can give a little. Brian Godfrey from RE/MAX of Nanaimo and his friend Bob Wilson will be riding from coast to coast to raise funds for BC Children's Hospital. As a father of two (one daughter, one son), Brian and his wife Shirley were fortunate to never have their children visit BC Children's Hospital. However, Brian and Shirley saw many of their friends require the services of the hospital and heard only great things about the care provided at the hospital. Brian began to feel a true connection to BCCH once he began working at RE/MAX of Nanaimo and became connected to the Children's Miracle Network through his participation in the Miracle Home Program (a portion of each commission is donated to the Children's Miracle Network which supports Children's Hospitals). Helping the kids is part of the culture at RE/MAX. Brian has decided to take three months off to ride across the continent! Together with his friend Bob Wilson, they will dip their wheels in the Pacific Ocean in Victoria on May 1, 2013 and will ride to St. Johns Newfoundland and dip their wheels in the Atlantic Ocean. This adventure will take Brian and Bob over 7300km on a route through Canada and the US. Brian and RE/MAX of Nanaimo has set a goal to raise $50,000 for BC Children's Hospital Foundation- please support RE/MAX of Nanaimo and Brian in their fundraising efforts! Let the adventure begin!

Grind For Kids is now in its third year and leverages the enthusiasm of the thousands of people in the Lower Mainland that do the Grouse Grind on a regular basis. People sign up and ask friends, family and co-workers pledge $1 or more for every Grouse Grind they do between June and October. At the end of the season participants will share their success with the people who have pledged them and request they fulfill their pledges.

On Sunday May 26th, we are holding a bowling fundraiser to support our team Children at Heart which is registered to participate in the 28th Annual BC ChildRun. This team-based competition event takes place at The Zone Bowling in Richmond and will last two hours. We intend to donate all the money collected minus the cost for the lane rentals towards the ChildRun in support of our team.
