Gabrielle Friedman

In her nine years of life, Gabrielle Friedman has visited the hospital more times than a typical adult would in a lifetime. Gabrielle suffered from persistent ear infections, had seizures, and experienced a near shut-down of her major organs, all before her parents even knew the name of their daughter's condition. She and her family have come to rely on the Emergency Department at BC Children's countless times for the specialized, lifesaving care Gabrielle has needed over the years.
Thanks to a new procedure to help blood bypass a permanent clot in her portal vein, which was the root of her health problems, Gabrielle's trips to the hospital are nowhere near as frequent. Today, she only comes to BC Children's twice a year for checkups and her visits to Emergency are virtually none. Gabrielle has dreams of becoming a doctor, just like the ones who have helped her.
