Jayden Pun

Within 24 hours of arriving at BC Children's Hospital, Jayden Pun went from Emergency, through multiple tests and examinations, to being diagnosed with leukemia, having a bone marrow biopsy, and his first dose of chemotherapy on June 30, 2008. Amazingly, after two weeks, seven-year-old Jayden was in remission. Despite experiencing common side effects from the cancer-killing drugs - weight and hair loss, fatigue, nausea and vomiting - and an allergic reaction to a platelet transfusion, Jayden endured eight and a half months of intense chemotherapy without complaint.
Though he did not go to school for most of his Grade 2 year, Jayden did his school work while at home or in hospital, and was back for Grade 3 in September 2009. With most of the pokes for blood work, chemotherapy and lumbar punctures behind him, Jayden finally finshed the last phase of his treatment in October 2011. Jayden will continue to visit BC Children's Hospital for follow up visits, and each time he'll get a chance to visit the doctors and nurses that became an important part of his family.
