Bindy Sweett, Child Life Specialist

"Today I got to put a train set together with a little guy on the ward who's four. When I came in the door with the train he was sitting on a chair in his room watching TV, and he leapt off his chair when he saw that I had toys. So you get a nice reception when you work in child life."

Bindy Sweett has been a child life specialist at BC Children's Hospital for over 20 years. For most of her career she has worked with cardiac patients and their families. She helps kids and their families cope with hospitalization, treatment and illness.

Bindy's daughter Laura died at age four, and she was a Children's Hospital patient. "My experience with her helped me understand the family's perspective, and it was the catalyst for my child life career."
