Grace teBoekhorst

Grace teBoekhorst has a gift from her father, Dennis, which few children receive from their parents ' a kidney. When Grace was five, she had a life-saving kidney transplant surgery with Dennis as her organ donor.

Grace suffers from an extremely rare disease called nephrotic syndrome, which damages the kidneys and weakens the body's immune system. By the time Grace had her transplant, she had less than 20 per cent of kidney function remaining and was at the hospital four times a week for hemodialysis. And at one point, she had to be put on an extracorporeal life support machine that performed the functions of her lungs, kidneys and heart, which were all shutting down.

It's been good news since her surgery. Grace has bounced back into an active life and continues to grow strong.
