Batter up! Donors needed as teams aim to raise $400,000 for BC Children’s Hospital

May 15, 2014 – Vancouver, BC – Dozens of pitchers are warming up their throwing arms, and hundreds of batters are practicing their swings as BC Children’s Hospital Foundation prepares to host 59 teams during the 24th annual Slo-Pitch event on May 23–25 at Softball City in South Surrey. All the foundation needs now is to have donors step up to the plate to raise money for the most urgent health needs of children treated at BC Children’s Hospital.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation is hoping people, whether they are softball fans or not, will pitch in to raise $400,000 to enhance patient care, purchase specialized equipment and support research into childhood diseases at the hospital. General donations, or those made in support of a specific team or individual can be made at www.bcchf.ca/slopitch.

Every year, nearly 1,000 participants form corporate and community teams to get on base for BC’s kids at this fun, family event. Slo-Pitch champion and cancer survivor Simran Sarai will be on site over the event’s three days to cheer on the participants.

One of the event’s top fundraising teams, Ledcor Group of Companies, is encouraging players to raise a minimum of $500 online through the Ledcor Challenge. In addition to matching their employees’ fundraising, Ledcor Group of Companies will generously donate $500 directly to BC Children’s Hospital for every participant who meets the challenge. Participants who raise at least $500 online will also be automatically entered for the chance to win a return trip for two to any scheduled WestJet destination. The winner will be announced on the Miracle Weekend broadcast on Sunday, June 1, during the Noon News Hour on Global BC.

Slo-Pitch is an all-ages event. Check out the Aldergrove Financial Group KidZone, a space designed for children with activities such as crafts, face painting, a bouncy castle and more. Adults can take part in an online silent auction, daily barbecue and more.
