‘Caps playroom to open in new hospital in 2017

September 29, 2015 – VANCOUVER, BC Vancouver Whitecaps FC is pleased to announce a partnership with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation that will see $1 million raised through the club’s 50/50 program and other charitable events and initiatives in the next five years.

In each year of the partnership, funds raised by Whitecaps FC will be used to support initiatives that enhance the comfort and wellness of BC Children’s Hospital patients. Funds raised this year will be used to purchase anesthesia monitors for the hospital. Each year, BC Children’s Hospital surgeons perform 9,000 procedures to treat children with heart defects, kidney disease, cancer, epilepsy and many other conditions. The anesthesia monitors play an important role in the care of these children by displaying vital information about their health, helping to ensure patients are kept as safe and comfortable as possible during surgery.

In addition to the annual support that will be provided through the partnership, a Whitecaps-FC-themed playroom will be constructed in the new Teck Acute Care Centre, the heart of the new BC Children’s Hospital. The playroom will be located on the sixth floor with the surgical inpatient ward, and will serve children recovering from surgery. The facility is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

“We are thrilled to be entering into a long-term partnership with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation,” said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. “This new partnership enables us to create a legacy with the funds raised each year through our 50/50 program and other charitable events and initiatives. Together with our fans we look forward to continuing to enrich the lives of patients who are treated at this hospital.”

“We are deeply grateful to Vancouver Whitecaps FC for this commitment,” said Teri Nicholas, president and CEO of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “The lives of so many children and families from across BC and the Yukon will change for the better as a result of this gift. This five-year partnership shows that the Whitecaps FC is committed to making a difference today and in the years to come.”
