FESTIVAL OF TREES
The 2014 Festival of Trees Vancouver at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and Pacific Centre raised more than $147,600 for BC Children’s Hospital thanks to generous sponsors and festival-goers. The People’s Choice Award went to Tracey Jackson Law Corporation’s “Grinch Tree.” Meanwhile, the Festival of Trees in Victoria, held at the Fairmont Empress, raised more than $129,200. Four other community-led Festival of Trees events took place around the province: the Port Alberni festival raised $13,000; Nanaimo raised $6,525; Sooke brought in $1,655 and Osoyoos raised $10,234. 28TH ANNUAL CRYSTAL BALL
The 28th annual Crystal Ball, presented by Beedie Development Group, raised a record $2.7 million for BC Children’s Hospital on November 27. More than 400 guests rose to their feet when MCs announced that philanthropist Dr. Djavad Mowafaghian had pledged $1.4 million to purchase an EOS imaging machine for the hospital’s Orthopedics Department. Proceeds will allow the hospital to acquire and install this life-changing, low-radiation X-ray machine.
The Crystal Ball committee, led by chair Arya Eshghi, treated guests to the culinary creations of Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver’s executive chef Ned Bell, paired with wines from Painted Rock Estate Winery. The event was made possible by crystal sponsors Canaccord Genuity, The Keg Steakhouse + Bar, New Gold Inc. and Wesgroup; official car sponsor Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver; airfare sponsor Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation; champagne & caviar reception sponsors Milani Plumbing, Drainage & Heating and Tracey Jackson Law Corporation; and venue sponsor the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver.
A NIGHT OF MIRACLES
On November 8, the sixth annual A Night of Miracles, co-presented by Fasken Martineau and RBC, raised $800,000 and completed the South Asian community’s pledge of $3 million to build the ANOM Special Procedures Suites in the new BC Children’s Hospital. Guests enjoyed the culinary delights of Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown’s executive chef Frank Gort and Vikram Vij of Vij’s Restaurant. The event was made possible by auction sponsor Odyssey International, car sponsor OpenRoad and evening sponsors Ampri Group, CIBC, KPMG, Nature’s Path, Smythe Ratcliffe, Twin Brook Developments Ltd., and Woodfibre LNG. FOR CHILDREN WE CARE
More than 800 guests from the Chinese-Canadian community converged on the Vancouver Convention Centre to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the For Children We Care gala on January 24. The gala raised an astounding $668,669 to fund the purchase of two ultrasound machines for the hospital’s Radiology Department. Guests also celebrated the efforts of volunteers and generous supporters in the past 20 years, the community’s achievement in raising over $13.2 million for medical equipment, research and educational programs at the hospital, and the naming of the For Children We Care Oncology Inpatient Unit in the new BC Children’s Hospital.
