Step Up for BC's Kids

Looking for a challenge this summer? Try testing your limits on “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster” while making a difference in the lives of sick kids in BC.

Grind for Kids encourages hikers to collect $1 for every ascent they make up the Grouse Grind this season. In seven years, the fundraising initiative has raised $1-million for BC Children’s Hospital cardiology program. Organizers hope that this year’s fundraising will help the event surpass the $1-million mark. Hikers can participate in other events, including the Multi-Grouse Grind Challenge.

Melissa Searle tested her limits in that event four years in a row. On June 20th, she tackled the grueling 2.9-kilometre trail 8 times, raising $3,196.

“It was one of the toughest, most painful experiences of my life,” said Melissa. “My pain was not even remotely close to the challenges endured by the children and their families I was supporting.”

To sign up, go to grindforkids.com. With their $25 participation fee, participants will receive an official timer to track their progress in real time.
