National Philanthropy Day

Posted by Terra Scheer on 14 November 2014 | 0 Comments

This week, we are participating in National Philanthropy Day and celebrating the great work of individuals who give, volunteer, and advocate for the charities that make our communities better.

National Philanthropy Day® is both an official day and a grassroots movement. Every year, communities across the globe have celebrated by hosting events to recognize activities of donors, volunteers, foundations, leaders, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropy.

The Giving Hearts Awards program was created to recognize outstanding individuals and organizations who exemplify the true spirit of philanthropy.

On Friday, November 15 two longtime BCCHF supporters were honoured at the 17th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon in celebration of National Philanthropy Day.

The TD Bank Group was named Outstanding Corporation, and Mangia E Bevi Ristorante received the award for Outstanding Small Business. Congratulations!

Leah Iverson and Mauro Manzi from TD Bank Group, and Maria Faccio from BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

TD Bank Group has been a generous and dedicated supporter of BC Children’s for over 27 years. During this time, they have contributed an incredible $10 million dollars to support the hospital.

“TD is committed to giving back in meaningful ways within the communities where our employees live and work. TD contributes specifically to a number of important causes and organizations that align closely with our corporate values. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.” – Mauro Manzi, SVP TD Bank Group Pacific Region

Antonio Sauro, Doug Grisdale and Rob Parrot from Mangia E Bevi Ristorante attending the National Philanthropy Day luncheon.

Mangia E Bevi Ristorante has been supporting childhood cancer research programs at BC Children’s Hospital for over eight years, raising over $117,000 for the hospital through their signature fundraiser B.A.C.I.O which stands for ‘Because a Cure is Obtainable’

“When we opened our restaurant in 2007, we knew that we wanted to use it in some way to raise money to fight cancer. Little did we know that impact it would have on our business and our lives. We are grateful for the support of our community!” – Founders of Mangia E Bevi Ristorante.

Vancouver Island is also celebrating National Philanthropy Day by honouring the incredible efforts donors and volunteers in making our community stronger and healthier. We are thrilled to announce that the Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary won the Outstanding Philanthropic Service Club award! We would also like to congratulate Deb and Doug Vincent who were named finalists for the Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer award.

CHCA Executive Members after winning their award at the National Philanthropy Luncheon.

The Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary is an incredible force of philanthropy.  Managed by a small group of Executive Members, the CHCA has approximately 170 active volunteer members that organize and run many services within the Chamainus Health Care Centre. The significant money the group raises supports a wide range of charities on Vancouver Island. While all of this makes the Auxiliary incredibly impressive, what really stands out is the way that they do their charitable work with an energy and enthusiasm that inspires and celebrates philanthropy.
