Macquarie Private Wealth
On December 7, 2012, Mike Brow and Philip Francis from Macquarie Private Wealth hosted a luncheon in support of BC Children’s Hospital. Thanks to generous contributions from the Kronier and Greczmiel families along with a matching grant from the Macquarie Group Foundation, the luncheon raised $50,000 for cancer research and patient care at BC Children’s Hospital. In 2011-12, the Macquarie Group and its staff contributed $22 million to more than 1,300 charitable initiatives around the world.
BC Children’s Hospital is the only place in the province where children with cancer can get a customized treatment plan developed. In 2011 caregivers in the Oncology Program saw 127 children who were newly diagnosed with cancer and treated 841 patients. Currently, the overall cure rate for children with some types of cancer can be as high as 80 per cent, more than double the cure rate from the 1950s.
One hundred per cent of funds raised from the luncheon will be used to fund innovative research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer, as well as to enhance comfort and support for children undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital. Thank you, Macquarie Private Wealth, for supporting some of our province’s most vulnerable children and their families.
