Michael Cuccione Foundation

Michael Cuccione was an accomplished singer, songwriter and actor. But most of all he was a childhood cancer crusader. Diagnosed with cancer at the age of nine, Michael dedicated most of his young life to raising awareness of the disease and raising funds for childhood cancer research.

Michael spread his message about the importance of supporting childhood cancer research around the world; through his moving speeches and unwavering commitment, he inspired countless individuals to join him in his mission. Believing that research holds the key to finding a cure, Michael eventually raised enough funds to establish two lifetime endowments for scientists at BC Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute, giving the brilliant minds of today the opportunity to train and become the childhood cancer research leaders of tomorrow. Sadly, Michael lost his life at the age of 16 due to respiratory complications arising from his cancer treatments.

Since Michael’s passing, the Michael Cuccione Foundation has continued his dream of a world without childhood cancer. Thanks to the Foundation’s efforts, the Michael Cuccione Pediatric Oncology Laboratory was established at the research institute at BC Children’s Hospital. Subsequently, the foundation established the Michael Cuccione Childhood Cancer Research Program.  This 20-year-long dedication to a single goal – to improve the lives of children with cancer – has propelled BC Children’s Hospital to become a leader in childhood cancer research and brought us in reach of a cure for cancer. To date, over $10 million has been raised in Michael’s name.

“One person can only do so much, but together we can make a difference.” - Michael James Cuccione
