Roman, Hailey and Madison
It was an incredible shock to the Gagne family to learn that all three of their kids – Roman, and his younger twin sisters, Hailey and Madison – have cystic fibrosis.
Caregivers in the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital educated the Gagne family on what cystic fibrosis is, the changes to expect in their daily lives, and how to care for the children.
Although all three kids have stayed at BC Children’s Hospital for weeks at a time, it is Roman who has had hardest time, with over a dozen two-week stays.
Every day, each of the Gagne kids takes turns receiving respiratory therapy through a PEP mask, which helps to loosen the mucus that accumulates in their lungs.
The three siblings will require care for their condition throughout their lifetimes and the family is thankful that Children’s Hospital will be there every step of the way.
